Elm Class - Term 3

In English, over the past few weeks, Elm Class have been exploring various biography texts – including their features and the different language used throughout. The children then identified any common phrases and cohesive devices used across different texts. In the next session, they revisited the biographies, whilst introducing new examples, to create a word bank of phrases from the texts explored. Following this, the children explored different strategies to add additional information, using varied punctuation to indicate the parenthesis.

We started Term 3 by baking some bread! The children spent time considering different types of bread that they eat and the origins of bread from around the world, before designing their own bread. As the were designing their roll, the children considered whether they wanted to challenge themselves to create a gluten-free roll or use traditional strong bread flour, in addition to the flavourings, toppings and finish for their roll. They worked together to weight, mix and knead the dough before distributing the dough evenly amongst their group. After shaping their rolls, they were proofed and baked. The children did a fantastic job and they smelt lovely!
