Acorn Class - Term 2
To celebrate 'Children in Need' day, the whole school dressed up in spots and as superheroes. Acorn class completed a variety of activities throughout the day:
- A Superhero active break
- Design their own superhero masks
- Decorate a Pudsey bear
- Decorate leaves with spots
We have had a fun packed start to the term, learning all about different celebrations.
First we learnt all about Guy Fawkes and bonfire night. We watched a video all about why it is celebrated and how to be safe around fireworks. Then we created our own firework pictures using straws, paint and glitter. Later, we created our own rockets using tissue paper for the flames and paint and glitter for the decoration and some of us used shapes to create more rockets!
Later on in the week we learnt all about the Hindu celebration of Diwali. During our KS1 assembly, Miss Corbyn told us all about why and how it is celebrated. Back in class, we watched a short video showing some children explaining how they celebrate at home. They talked about all the ways they welcome the Goddess Lakshmi by cleaning their homes, wearing new clothes, having a special feast, lighting special diya lamps, watching fireworks and creating Rangoli patterns using rice and powder. We created our own Rangoli patterns out of paint and collaging and we also used brown pens to add mehndi patterns onto hands, similar to henna.
